Former Shill for Big Pharma Tells the Truth About Drug Testing
Erick Turner, a psychiatry professor at the Oregon State Health and Sciences University, woke up one day and realized that he was acting as a shill for pharmaceutical corporations. Worse, he was promoting drugs that not only provide very little benefit, but also do great harm. In spite of the benefits paid to him, including accommodations and thousands of dollars, and the ego satisfaction of being recognized as a “Very Important Person” by his fellow physicians, his conscience wouldn’t let him continue.

Eugenics and Environmentalism: From quality control to quantity control

Daniel Taylor
Old Thinker News
Has eugenics faded away with time, or has the pseudo science morphed and cloaked itself under new auspices? Were some of the original founders of population control efforts themselves eugenicists? How and when did eugenicists shift from Galton era ideals to Malthusian population control? The history of eugenics is incredibly detailed and expansive, but there are certain issues that are not given as much attention as others. This article attempts to answer these questions and provide a wider perspective on these important issues.

BBC Show Engages In Chaotic, Rambling 9/11 Truth Debunk-Fest
Steve Watson - A Popular BBC talk radio show yesterday engaged in 45 minutes of uninformed debunking and ridicule of “9/11 conspiracy theories”, interspersing questions over the official government version of events on 9/11 with barely intelligible members of the public talking about fake moon landings and Joan of Arc not actually being burned at the stake.

Alex Jones was invited onto the Richard Bacon show on BBC Radio Five Live, the BBC’s talk radio station, but could barely get a word in edgewise before being faded out of the discussion and countered by a series of debunkers, two of whom frequently admitted to knowing very little about what was being discussed.

Economist: Future Shocks could Spark Depression

Ron Paul: Let’s take the country by storm — again
Today is an exciting day for our campaign and our movement: my new book, The Revolution: A Manifesto, is officially released. Although a short book, it is the product of many years of thought and action. It is a defense of the principles to which you and I have devoted our lives. My friends are calling it “Ron Paul’s legacy.”

These principles - individual liberty, sound money, the Constitution, and the foreign policy of the Founding Fathers - have had no home in American politics for a very long time. With The Revolution: A Manifesto, I’m letting the establishment know we’re not going away.

Finally, Americans can hear and judge these great American principles for themselves, instead of through an unfriendly media filter. And they can learn once and for all that they need not be satisfied with the phony choices the system offers them every four years. Another way really is possible.

Two days ago I did a book signing in New York at the Borders on Wall Street. All 530 copies had been sold before I even arrived. They had underestimated you again.

Imagine the attention our cause and our principles could attract with a fantastic opening day today, with people marching into bookstores across the country for their copies. If it should become a publishing phenomenon, The Revolution: A Manifesto can fuel our revolution for a long time to come. You can make that happen. I hope you enjoy this book, which was a real labor of love for me. Please spread the word. And may the future be ours.

For liberty, Ron Paul

Ron Paul’s troops quietly take over some local GOP groups
Quietly, beneath the political radar of the Republican Party los angeles timesestablishment and mainstream media, they’re laboring at the local level. Last month Paul forces read the party rule book in Missouri and elected about a third of the delegates to the state convention that will pick the delegates to the national convention.
Last weekend in Nevada they drove through a rules change in the state party convention that halted the approval of pre-approved slates of convention delegates as a means to eventually substitute their own supporters to travel to St. Paul and boost Paul’s delegate totals for platform and other struggles this fall. Using sophisticated communications techniques on the Nevada convention floor in Reno, Paul supporters transmitted mass text messaging to maneuver and direct their troops. When Paul appeared to speak, the ovation was thunderous.

What Ron Paul’s Book Accomplishes
For your friends who have heard of Ron Paul only in caricature, or lewrockwellhave never heard of him at all, it shows him to be a learned, thoughtful, and mature statesman. Its arguments are consistently persuasive, and it’s written in a way that keeps your attention from the first page to the last. It is a book that can change minds.
And we sure need plenty of that.

The Iraq War Morphs Into the Iran War
PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS — Counterpunch
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

It is 1939 all over again. The world waits helplessly for the next act of naked aggression by rogue states. Only this time the rogue states are not the Third Reich and Fascist Italy. They are the United States and Israel.

The targeted victims are not Poland and France, but Iran, Syria, the remains of the Palestinian West Bank and southern Lebanon. The American mass media is overjoyed. War coverage attracts viewers and sells advertising. The neoconservatives are ecstatic. Hegemony uber alles is back on track. The US Air Force can’t wait “to show what it can do.” Defense contractors see no end of the profits.

“Hostile” Iran Sparks U.S. Attack Plan
A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the “increasingly hostile role” Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops. “What the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and -women inside Iraq,” said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Sen. Mikulski’s Warmongering Exposed by Peace Activist
Here is the plain truth: Sen. Mikulski supports the Military-Industrial Complex, which is a one-trillion-dollar a year drain on our treasury. (2) She doesn’t give a good hoot about the troops, who are dying and suffering in Iraq. Her votes for war-funding puts the troops in harm’s way, in a conflict which was launched by the Bush-Cheney Gang based on 935 certifiable lies. (3) When the Democrats took control of the Congress in January, 2007, Sen. Mikulski had an opportunity to stop funding this war and to bring the troops home safely. She failed! As a result, 1,055 troops have died since that date and thousands more have been wounded.

Clinton Criticizing Closure of Indiana Factory That Clinton Helped Close
Clinton is airing this advertisement in Indiana, bemoaning the closure of a defense contractor Magnequench’s manufacturing plant in Valparaiso (she is also echoing this line in her stump speeches). Looking at the camera, she tells us she’s upset that the 200 jobs that were sent to China, and that “now America’s defense relies on Chinese spare parts.” And then comes the kicker: She tells viewers that “George Bush could have stopped it, but he didn’t.”

Clinton is certainly right that it is a tragedy that 200 American jobs were killed in a corporate deal that also exported sensitive military technology to China. But she forgets to mention that it wasn’t George Bush who was in the key position to stop it — it was Bill Clinton.

Ron Paul: Nevada GOP Tried To Exclude Us
Congressman responds to bizarre fiasco during weekend convention.
During an appearance on CNN’s American Morning, Congressman Ron Paul responded to this past weekend’s bizarre incident in which the Nevada GOP walked out on its own convention in an apparent attempt to stop Ron Paul delegates from voting.

As we reported yesterday, after Ron Paul supporters managed to get a rule changed positioning them for more national convention delegate slots than expected, the Nevada GOP simply cancelled their own state convention and left, in what political observers called an unprecedented fiasco.

“I was there, gave a speech, and I had to move on,” said Paul. “But yes, we had a lot of supporters there. And the people who were in charge of the party there seemed to want to exclude us. And they closed it down. Somebody said, you know, sometimes factions walked out, this time the party walked out. And they didn’t want us to have the delegates,” added the Congressman.

“To know that this administration has lied us into two wars that have cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of people… solidifies for me the TRUTH that anything they say, is a lie. Or, everything they say is a lie, is another way of putting it. Everything that this administration says is a lie. If they have an official version of the events of 9/11, it is by definition, a lie. It has to be. Because this is an administration that lies about everything. There’re no way to weasel out of that, you can’t get out of that. An administration that will lie a country into war… will lie about everything. You don’t have to be a genius to figure that out, or to come to that conclusion… There are some very, very brave, intelligent people, and expert people in their fields, who have said, ‘No. This [9/11] is a lie.’”

Hecklers turn mute as pastor cites documented history of biological warfare against innocent people.
Barack Obama’s outspoken pastor, Rev. Asked if he stood behind previous statements about the U.S. government deliberately creating AIDS as a means of genocide against black people, Wright responded, “”Have you read Horowitz’ book - Emerging Viruses - AIDS and Ebola?” “Have you read Medical Apartheid,” continues Wright as he is heckled from the floor. But when Wright starts to list documented examples of how the U.S. government had been complicit in biological warfare operations against innocent people, the reaction was noticeably mute.

Who profits from the Iraq war? More than a quarter of senators and congressmen have invested at least $196 million of their own money in companies doing business with the Department of Defense (DoD) that profit from the death and destruction in Iraq. According to the latest reports, 151 members of Congress invested close to a quarter-billion in companies that received defense contracts of at least $5 million in 2006. These companies got more than $275.6 billion from the government in 2006, or $755 million per day, according to FedSpending.org, a website of the watchdog group OMBWatch.

National “DNA warehouse” bill passes
The federal government lacks the Constitutional authority as well as the aapscompetence to develop a newborn screening program, states Rep. Ron Paul, M.D. (R-TX). He states that all hospitals will probably scrap their own newborn testing program and adopt the federal model, whatever its flaws, to avoid the loss of federal funding.
“Drafters of the legislation made no effort to ensure that these newborn screening programs do not violate the privacy rights of parents and children,” Dr. Paul noted.
Ms. Brase has called on President Bush to veto the bill.

National “DNA warehouse” bill passes
AAPS News of the Day
Passing the House of Representatives on a voice vote, S. 1858 has been sent to President Bush for signature. The Newborn Genetic Screening bill was passed by the Senate last December. The bill violates the U.S. Constitution and the Nuremberg Code, writes Twila Brase, president of the Citizen’s Council on Health Care (CCHC). “The DNA taken at birth from every citizen is essentially owned by the government, and every citizen becomes a potential subject of government-sponsored genetic research,” she states. “It does not require consent and there are no requirements to inform parents about the warehousing of their child’s DNA for the purpose of genetic research. Already, in Minnesota, the state health department reports that 42,210 children of the 780,000 whose DNA is housed in the Minnesota ‘DNA warehouse’ have been subjected to genetic research without their parents’ knowledge or consent.”

FLDS attorney challenges Texas count of pregnant minors from
Salt Lake Tribune
SAN ANGELO, Texas - An attorney for FLDS families in Texas challenged the state’s allegations of a “pervasive pattern” of underage girls having children, saying the state’s own documents show just three teenagers in custody are pregnant. Of those girls, one will turn 18 in a few months and another merely refused to take a pregnancy test, said Rod Parker, a Salt Lake City attorney representing families at the YFZ Ranch. “That leaves us with one,” he said. Parker also said Friday that one state document includes a woman whose first child was born more than a decade ago. He said he based his statements on a copy of a list created by an investigator for Texas Child Protective Services. “I challenge CPS to come forward with the pregnant minors,” said Parker.

Scalia: Does Torture Violate ‘Cruel And Unusual Punishment’ Provision? ‘No.’
Think Progress
Monday, April 28, 2008

Last night, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia granted his first broad-based television interview, to Lesley Stahl on CBS’s 60 Minutes. There he explained that the torture of detainees does not violate the 8th Amendment’s ban on “cruel and unusual punishment” because, according to Scalia, torture is not used as punishment:

STAHL: If someone’s in custody, as in Abu Ghraib, and they are brutalized, by a law enforcement person — if you listen to the expression “cruel and unusual punishment,” doesn’t that apply?

SCALIA: No. To the contrary. You think — Has anybody ever referred to torture as punishment? I don’t think so.

STAHL: Well I think if you’re in custody, and you have a policeman who’s taken you into custody–

SCALIA: And you say he’s punishing you? What’s he punishing you for? … When he’s hurting you in order to get information from you, you wouldn’t say he’s punishing you. What is he punishing you for?

‘Blood Diamonds’ ‘Blood Oil’ and ‘Blood Food’
People in Haiti are eating mud cakes because of the soaring food prices; the people in Gaza have no electricity; in Afghanistan, the only royal visit they receive is of a British prince dressed in military gear going to kill on Afghan soil. In India, the farmers are committing suicide due to failed harvests of genetically modified Monsanto crops. Around the world, people are rioting because of lack of food or basic human necessities. Yet in the west, we can move around freely, we can cross borders and fly our budget airlines from capital to capital, observing the comforts of western existence. Organized streets, clean cars, wonderful shopping malls, great monuments, everything is civilized and could be admired, that is, if it was honest. But it isn’t, it is morally wrong and deep down we all know it. We know it, but we just don’t want to do anything about it, because we are comfortable. Only a very small proportion of the population would truly change their position for that of a person in Iraq. I suppose that is why we choose to keep Iraq as a problem of our governments, and the terrorists whom must be eliminated to protect us from “evil”.

Large crowed at Ron Paul’s book signing
As soon as I stepped into the store one of the worker announced that the Book - The Revolution: A Manifesto - is already sold out. I didn’t care much because I bought it from Amazon a while ago, but many people had to travel to other stores (One told me he had to go uptown to get it). The line of people waiting from the book signing was long, and although I was standing in the middle of it and although it moved pretty fast, it took me more than an hour and a half to get to the actual signing.

From the Ron Paul Frontlines Ron Paul’s NYC Book Signing
“Some frontline information on Dr. Paul’s book signing today in NYC: I lewrockwellasked for a long lunch break to go see him – I arrived at 1:25 pm, to find that the top floor of Borders on Wall St. was engulfed in lines going in every direction! It was previous to this that Borders had RUN OUT of books! (the event was scheduled for 1pm). At the rate the line was going, it would have taken me 2 or 3 hours to get to see him – and people were still packing in, so I had to leave to get back to work. I’m disappointed I didn’t get to see him, but glad at how much support there was – so much so that Borders was not ready for it!”

Ron Paul: the revolution lives on
Texas Congressman Ron Paul said Monday his revolution is still alive, CNNand he will not be shut out of the presidential race by the Republican Party.
“We’re trying to say we have a right to argue our case that Republicans ought to stand for something,” Paul told CNN Monday morning. Adding, the need for change is vital, but all three candidates, including John McCain, represent a continuation of the same policy. A large group of Paul’s supporters managed to bring Nevada’s Republican Convention to a standstill over the weekend after the party tried to exclude The Texas congressman from delegate allocations.

The Renaissance Of The American Patriot
Political apathy is the most egregious behavior of any civilization. Fear of discussing dissenting opinions around the dinner table of the American family unit has brought us the the precipice of being a completely fascist state with its own citizens unwittingly defending it.
When mental, moral & spiritual clarity is achieved by understanding that we are not “consumers” but powerful beings with unlimited potential to change the world around us then the true Patriot is born.

Continuing the Revolution
Reading through The Revolution: a Manifesto, I see so clearly the lew rockwellhumble hero that is Ron Paul. I see him living his values as few do. His embrace of truth, his courage to speak that truth to power affect me deeply. I see that he, himself, describes his own efforts as a peaceful continuation of the American Revolution.
Without the state putting themselves into a state of war with we the people, we would live more deeply and effectively. The state’s coercion is not the most potent force on our planet, our individual giving is. Our giving, not the state’s giving. A vote for the state to give instructs the state to steal. That is not our gift that is our theft. State giving must first engage in state plundering of some producer’s own earnings – his own property. Our giving requires creation and creation requires freedom.

Ron Paul: Politicizing Pain - Medical Marijuana
K.K. Forss does not claim medical marijuana solves all his problems. His texas straight talkpain from a ruptured disc in his neck is debilitating. He is unable to go to work or to the First Baptist Church he used to attend because of the pain and muscle spasms. Taxpayers through Medicare spend over $18,000 a year on his various medications. Half of those drugs are strong narcotics. The other half address the various side-effects brought on by the first half, such as nausea, heartburn, heart palpitations, difficulty sleeping, and muscle spasms.
No, marijuana would not completely address all his pain, but it made a tremendous difference in the quality of his life when he tried it for over a year. It helped him regain 38 pounds he had lost. It calmed his muscle spasms and helped him sleep. In short, it alleviated many side effects and greatly reduced his need for other expensive medications. Mr. Forss estimates that being allowed to use medical marijuana would save taxpayers at least $12,000 a year in medications he would no longer need. He would also be able to work occasionally and attend some church services.

What really happened at the Nevada GOP Convention….
This meant that Paul Supporters took 7 out of 9 possible Congressional dailypaulDistrict delegates to the National Convention.
…Sue sat there for about 30 seconds tapping her foot and then stood up and walked over to Councilman Woodbury who was sitting in front of me, leaning over she said, “If we can break Quorum, can we invalidate this?”
Soon after Chairwoman Lowden left, a John McCain staffer, Paul Johnson, came by. I had been gathering signs and information from him all day, and he believed I was a hardcore McCain supporter. He came up to me and got on one knee as if to propose his undying love. He began his conversation with, “They are trying to pull a coup, we are going to leave and quarter the convention.” I responded, “Do we even have the numbers, all they need is a couple hundred to keep Quorum?” He answered back, “The powers that be have the numbers, I am just doing what I was told to do by my boss.” At this moment I knew that they had lost control of the convention and were desperate. When he returned to the stage for the last time, Chairman Beers ended the convention illegally calling an indefinite recess without a vote of the delegation to do so, at 6 pm.

Comptroller Strayhorn Statement On Foster Care Abuse
“I am here today to release disturbing information found during my investigation about the deaths, poisonings, rapes and pregnancies of children in our state’s foster care system. “I found, from information provided by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, in Fiscal 2003, 30 foster children died in our state’s care; in Fiscal 2004, 38 foster children died; and in Fiscal 2005, 48 foster children died. “Data shows that while the number of foster children in our state’s care increased 24 percent from 26,133 in Fiscal 2003 to 32,474 in Fiscal 2005, the number of deaths increased 60 percent.

“If you compare the number of deaths of children in our state’s population to the number of deaths in our state’s foster care system, a child is four times more likely to die in our state’s foster care system. “Based on Fiscal 2004 data provided by the Health and Human Services Commission, about 100 children received treatment for poisoning from medications; 63 foster children received medical treatment for rape that occurred while in the foster care system; and 142 children gave birth while in the state foster care system. “As alarming as these cases are, we can only imagine how much worse the Fiscal 2005 data is because Gov. Perry’s Health and Human Services Commission has refused to provide the data needed to complete my investigation.

The Bees Die…The Planet Dies

I am speaking about the extermination of the bees - on which depends 80 % of the pollination of cultivated plants - by Imidaclopride which Bayer sells under the name of Gaucho to the farmers to coat seeds and to protect them from certain diseases… This product paralyses insects such as bees which cannot return to the hive and they therefore die. When they do succeed, the honey which results from it is toxic (because it’s poisoned). In less than three years, 450 000 hives were thus lost and production of honey fell from 45 000 tons to 25 000 tons in France. In Alsace, bee-keepers are regarded as disaster victims because of the Bayer products. In addition, it should be known that in Europe, approximately 4 000 vegetable species have their life assured thanks to pollination by bees.

Millions of dollars of lucrative Iraq reconstruction contracts were never finished because of excessive delays, poor performance or other factors, including failed projects that are being falsely described by the U.S. government as complete, federal investigators say. The audit released Sunday by Stuart Bowen Jr., the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, provides the latest snapshot of an uneven reconstruction effort that has cost U.S. taxpayers more than $100 billion. It also comes as several lawmakers have said they want the Iraqis to pick up more of the cost of reconstruction.

Carbon emissions may be immaterial to global warming in future

While climate change and carbon emissions are considered to be strongly associated, a new study report suggests that this relationship will perhaps no longer persist in the future. The report published in BioMed Centrals open access journal Carbon Balance and Management, however, makes it clear that it may be some time before this saturation point is reached. Russian researchers Igor Mokhov and Alexey Eliseev, from the Moscow-based A.M. dedication“They hijacked the party away from reveiwjournalthe people,” Paul supporter Chloie Leavitt, a 44-year-old Overton resident, said as she left. “We were winning and they shut it down.”
Paul’s supporters succeeded in overturning party rules that would have allowed only pre-approved delegate slates to be elected to the national convention.
They argued anyone present ought to be able to run for national delegate. Their move to change the rules succeeded by a wide margin.
Once that change was made, Paul campaigners were prepared for an intensive conventioneering effort, passing out their own suggested delegate slates for their people to vote on in hastily assembled delegate elections.
The McCain campaign hadn’t prepared for this contingency, having assumed the pre-approved delegate slates would be pushed through, a source with the campaign said.
