GQ magazine calls Ron Paul the ‘Darkhorse of the Year’ in their Men of the Year issue due out later this month. A dark horse candidate is described as one who is nominated unexpectedly, without previously having been discussed or considered as a likely choice. Well, he hasn’t received the nomination unexpectedly just yet and his people are passionately discussing and considering the likelihood of his candidacy far and wide. Some consider him as an Icon, but Ron Paul doesn’t let all this stuff go to his head.

Ron Paul’s humble demeanor is not only evident in his words and actions, such as the humble non-interventionist foreign policy he advocates, but also in the way he humbly deflects the icon status. He doesn’t think of himself as an icon of this social movement. “I don’t quite see myself like that…as an individual who did all this…it’s very exciting and important…I thank them for inviting me, but it’s our revolution, not mine” he says.

‘Our’ revolution is in the air and the message is spreading fast on the cape-tails of a legion of dedicated, empowered and informed Ron Paul supporters. Now these freedom-fighters are on the front-line defending this campaign against the firing line of some in the mainstream media who are viscously attacking and inciting violence against them. CNN and Glenn Beck recently aired an attempt to smear the campaign in a segment comparing Ron Paul supporters to terrorists.

In the slanderous propaganda broadcast, the admitted ex-Marxist Horowitz said, “There are plenty, unfortunately, libertarian websites which are indistinguishable from the anti-American left these days - LewRockwell.com and others like that - they are totally in bed with the Islamofascists and have turned against this country.” The insidious commentary led to a tremendous outpouring of support from the Ron Paul community, including a call to boycott CNN’s sponsors and a former U.S. Marine disgusted by Beck’s remarks penned a letter in response to the hateful remarks. Congressman Paul, appearing on the Alex Jones Show this week said, “Well, they’re getting awfully frightened…I think we are a threat to the establishment, and they represent the establishment.”

In response to David Horowitzs’ comment Paul said, “I guess Horowitz, it sounds like he is the real radical. I think it’s serious business when people strike out like that and start using names like Islamic fascism…they’re working on fear.” He continued, “I think they represent a philosophical position which is diametrically opposed to us and our interpretation of the Constitution.” He continued, “This whole idea that we’re calling for violence is absolutely preposterous. Well…they are trying to kill us just calling us names. It’s a good sign, but sometimes it’s a little bit scary as to what’s to come. We’ve earned our stripes and that’s why we’re getting this attention and we have to continue to do this…”

Paul also stated, “One of my heroes in the way that he acted was Dr. Martin Luther King…and Gandhi as well.” Once again, they attack Dr. Paul and he humbly and kindly highlights peaceful ends to the means. Well, the Satyagraha of Dr. Paul, as Gandhi said, first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. Ron Paul is the light in the dark…he is the darkhorse candidate of 2007, and he is on track for the being the darkhorse candidate of 2008.

Zogby posted a press release and reports that “Giuliani Leads Among Republicans in Latest Blind Bio Survey in a survey pitting resumes of the former New York mayor against those of Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Fred Thompson.”

Extrapolating data from a relatively small demographic of ‘very conservative voters’, Giuliani wins with 34% support, compared to 22% each for Thompson and Romney. Ron Paul, who has surged recently in polls and has a significant online following, came in last with 13% support, while 9% said they were undecided on the question, reported Zogby International.

Jones Productions, the sponsor of the survey, concludes that Zogby has spun the results of the poll conducted on November 14, 2007. Paul was the big winner with 32.8% in the general poll, but he did not win amongst this one subset of 389 respondents deeming themselves ‘very conservative’ out of 1009 total likely Republican primary voters polled. Zogby latched onto that one subset and announced that Giuliani won the poll even though Ron Paul won 90% of the categories in the survey.

At the end of the press release though, the real headline and winner is announced:

“The blind bio question was also posed to a larger pool of 1,009 likely voters nationwide, including Democrats and independents, and Paul was the big winner among that universe of voters, winning 33%, compared to 19% for Giuliani, 15% for Romney, and 13% for Thompson.”

The results of the survey can be found here

The poll data reflects that across the board, Ron Paul can beat Hillary Clinton, a feat that no other Republican contender can claim. He is overwhelmingly supported by 46% of Democrats when the vote is split, and 38% of moderates, both double digit leads. This goes to prove that Ron Paul is a uniter and not a divider as he garners support from all camps. Giuliani beats Paul on name recognition only, but Paul is surging ahead and gaining major momentum and this was the headline story of this poll. But Zogby chose to slant it Giuliani’s way and along with the majority of the MSM, continues its focus on establishment-approved candidates thus undermining the democratic process.

Ron Paul has won the latest nationwide Zogby Phone poll. Based on the tabular data provided by Zogby, Ron Paul took the top spot with a commanding 32.8%. Respondents were provided with descriptions of four different candidates and asked to choose who they would vote for based on each one’s attributes and political platform. 1009 people took part in the poll taken from two different categories of age groups consisting of 4 and 5 different age ranges. This methodology provides an overall view representative of all voters in America and based on a non-bias, three-question set and the typical scientific polling methodology of sampling, interviewing, weighting and sampling error, or margin of error.

$4,500 dollars was paid by the sponsor for the Zogby poll. Zogby requires an additional fee for a press release, which the sponsor, Jones Productions is considering in addition to its own reporting. They are considering paying for another poll through Mason-Dixon or Rasmussen to demonstrate that Ron Paul can win polls when they aren’t bias.

The predominant group targeted by the phone polling was hard-line Republicans. The biographies of the candidates were attribute , political platform and issue-substantiated and provided by Zogby. The Iraq war was a defining issue and according to another question in the poll, people overwhelmingly support bringing the troops home from Iraq. When asked:

Which candidate are you more likely to vote for - a candidate who is opposed to the Iraq War and wants to begin an immediate withdrawal from Iraq or a candidate who wants to stay the course in Iraq?

49% responded they want immediate withdrawal, 41% want to stay the course and 10% were unsure.

In the ‘blind-bio’ poll, which serves to discuss the issues and policies of the candidates without the nameplate, Ron Paul is the big winner with a 32.8% share with Giuliani following at 18.6%. As reported here, each candidate was represented ‘blindly’:

Candidate A is a 10-term US Congressman from a large Southern state who is an advocate for a smaller government and individual liberty. This candidate believes in strictly following the Constitution and has never voted to raise taxes. He has never voted in favor of the war in Iraq or the Patriot Act, and wants to bring troops home as soon as possible. As a former doctor, this candidate has delivered more than 4,000 babies. One of this candidate’s goals is to return America to the gold standard, and he believes that the current monetary policy needs to be drastically overhauled because of the dollar’s decline.

Candidate B is a former governor from a Democratic state in the Northeast. Before that, he was credited for essentially saving the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He is a Mormon and family man who is considered a moderate-to-conservative member of the GOP. While Governor, he signed the first state laws in the nation requiring all citizens of this state to obtain health insurance. He is a strong supporter of keeping troops in Iraq although he has been critical of how the war has been handled.

Candidate C is a former two-term senator from a Southern state who was a long-time lobbyist before running for public office. He was chief Republican council for the Congressional committee that investigated Watergate in the early 1970s. He was an actor playing supporting roles in several major motion pictures before entering the Senate, and returned to a prominent role as a New York City prosecutor in a popular network television series after leaving office. He has mostly supported the war in Iraq, but has said he would have managed it differently.

Candidate D is a former two-term mayor of a major city in the Northeast, and is considered a moderate member of the party on social issues. As Mayor, he presided over a dramatic drop in crime in his city, and is best known for his leadership in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He established a worldwide security consulting business after leaving public office at the end of 2001 He has been a supporter of President Bush since leaving office and supports the war in Iraq.

And the results:

Over 70% of respondents reported that they do not use YouTube, Facebook or MySpace, suggesting that this is not the ‘Internet-sensation’ crowd so often reported as Paul’s base of support. The demographics show strong and balanced support in both rural and urban areas and in all age groups.

These results mirror polling from debates and on-line where Paul consistently wins when the issues are discussed.
