A third aircraft is on it’s way to the Middle East, the U.S. Navy said Tuesday, in a move that bolstered U.S. military capability at a time of tension with Iran and increased operations in Iraq. The Navy confirmed the departure of a nuclear-powered USS Enterprise from it’s home port of Norfolk, Virginia, with about 5,500 American sailors and marines.

The Bush administration is apparently carrying out PNAC’s (Project for a New American Century) agenda and ’spreading peace through strength’ and possibly preparing to attack Iran. Is this good policy for America and for true global peace and prosperity? Does America need or want more war and politics of fear?

The Enterprise will provide “power to counter the assertive, disruptive and coercive behavior of some countries, as well as support for our soldiers and marines in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Vice Admiral Kevin J. Cosgriff, the commander of the Bahrain-based U.S. 5th Fleet. Cosgriff said the Enterprise transports about 70 attack, fighter and detection planes, as well as four helicopters. These will “contribute to stability” and ensure the “free flow of commerce in the region,” he said.

Will Mr. Bush stand aboard the Enterprise and declare mission accomplished again in vain? Will he announce that we are winning the war on terror while standing in military garb on the poop deck? The ‘war on terror’, or also termed by some - ‘the war of terror’, is a spring-board for war upon war with whomever is deemed a terrorist or aiding terrorism.

“The West needs more terror attacks on the scale of 9/11 and 7/7 in order to save a failing foreign policy”, says Lt.-Col. Doug Delaney, chair of the war studies program at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. This alarming admission can be found right at the end of a long and academic Toronto Star article about the history of conflict and why the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq are doomed. Does Presidet Bush and Vice President Cheney care? Are we on the road to tyranny?

“I’m the commander in chief, see, I don’t need to explain, I do not need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting part about being president. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don’t feel like I owe anybody an explanation.”

George W. Bush, quoted in Bob Woodward’s book ‘Bush at War’

Back in January, Vice President Cheney said the deployment of a second aircraft-carrier task force to the Persian Gulf delivered a “strong signal” of the United States’ commitment to confront Iran’s growing influence in the region. Cheney went on to say “We are doing what we can to try to resolve issues such as the nuclear question diplomatically through the United Nations, but we’ve also made it clear that we haven’t taken any options off the table.”

Countries in the Middle East “want us to have a major presence there,” Cheney said in a Newsweek interview published online. Referring to the deployment of the carrier USS John C. Stennis, Cheney said, “That sends a very strong signal to everybody in the region that the United States is here to stay, that we clearly have significant capabilities, and that we are working with friends and allies as well as the international organizations to deal with the Iranian threat.”

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”

James Madison (1751-1836), 4th U.S. President and author of the U.S. Constitution

PNAC’s aim is to remind Americans of these lessons and to draw their consequences for today. Here are four consequences as listed on The New American Centuries website:

• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future;

• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values;

• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad;

• we need to accept responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.

“…An empire is a despotism, and an emperor is a despot, bound by no law or limitation but his own will; it is a stretch of tyranny beyond absolute monarchy. For, although the will of an absolute monarch is law, yet his edicts must be registered by parliaments. Even this formality is not necessary in an empire.”

John Adams (1735-1826), 2nd American President

Bush said that Saddam Hussein was a homicidal dictator, which is true. Bush said that Saddam was addicted to weapons of mass destruction, which turned up empty. Is President Bush a homicidal dictator hell-bent on war? Good politics and societies should cultivate fearlessness and hope.

Why have we adopted the Wolfowitz doctrine? It seems that PNAC’s agenda is not the answer to peace and prosperity, security and order. Is it only part of the New World order agenda? Is this really an anti-terror strategy, or the blueprint to control oil? Why are they targeting Iran next? Is it any wonder that Iran is #3 in oil reserves, and Iraq is #4? Have these radical conservatives hijacked our country, and all of humanity, by building up the size and scale of America’s military force to use more aggressively and unilaterally in building a new American Empire?

No War in Iran
